The Kindness of Strangers Helped Raise $170,000 for this Single Father

Abdul al-Kaden is a Syrian refugee with two children, ages 5 and 9. Since he is unable to find employment, al-Kaden sells pens on the streets of Lebanon to feed his children and he makes approximately $35 a day. After arriving in Lebanon, his wife left him with the children because he refused to return to Syria.
Gissur Simonarson tweeted a photo of al-Kaden carrying his sleeping 9 year-old daughter while he sold pens on the streets of Beirut. After the photo was tweeted, an online hunt began to find al-Kaden.

Simonarson created an Indiegogo campaign to help raise money for al-Kaden. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, the campaign reached the goal of $5000 in 30 minutes. In all, the campaign has raised $170,000 for al-Kaden.

Simonarson has teamed up with UNICEF to provide al-Kaden with the money and also to protect him from the media. To make this even better, al-Kaden stated that he hopes more Syrians like him get the help they deserve and he would like people to see the conditions that they live in.
